Overview: The Grand Coulee Dam, currently the largest hydroelectric plant in North America, was built in 1941 as part of the Columbia River Basin project. The dam created a 130-mile long lake, which was named after President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Lake Roosevelt is now part of the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, an amazing scenic location to visit. The area includes historic sites like Fort Spokane and St. Paul's Mission, beautiful scenery, and outdoor opportunities like fishing, boating, swimming, camping, and more!
