Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park

Size: 3,442 Acres

Overview: The battle of Palo Alto happened on May 8, 1846, and caused a change in the boundary between Mexico and the United States. Although the U.S.-Mexican War had been ongoing for two years, Palo Alto was the first battle to help shift and resolve the territory dispute. The battle is only vaguely remembered today, but the Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park preserves the area where this historic moment took place, and allows visitors a deeper understanding of all that led to the battle and all that was influenced by it.
