Overview: The Tularosa Basin contains one of the world’s great natural wonders: the largest white sand desert on earth, right here in New Mexico! The White Sands National Monument preserves a major portion of the 275-square-mile desert of gypsum sand.

Some dunes move to the northeast at a pace of about 30 feet per year while other areas have little movement. The park contains 115 acres of dunes. Come experience these impressive waves of glistening white sand for yourself.
