Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor

Commemorating the rich culture created and maintained by West Africans brought to the U.S. through the slave trade, the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor is an important memorial of a unique part of American history.  Designated by Congress in 2006, this heritage area stretches from Wilmington, North Carolina to Jacksonsville, Florida. These people and their descendants maintained a strong culture and proud community over the years in coastal communities and on the Sea Islands.
