First State National Monument

Delaware was the first state to ratify the United States Constitution. The people of Delaware were extremely active in the debates surrounding the conflict with Britain and the Revolution. From the early years on, Delaware has been a haven for diversity in religion, national origin, and has greatly valued independence for people from all walks of life. The site reflects the state’s efforts in education, conservation, and race issues throughout the history of the United States.
